The Neuk – New Development 2020

It is our vision to provide a local service specifically designed to support people in crisis through a multi-agency, peer-supported crisis house to address some of the need in Perth and Kinross locality. We believe this will provide early intervention support or crisis intervention and lead to avoiding problematic and sometimes unnecessary assessments out of area therefore reducing the impact on individuals.

We want to capture local knowledge and experience from organisations and groups already on the ground, and work in partnership to provide a consistent and compassionate response to crisis and distress.

The model within The Neuk encompasses the Recovery-Orientated Systems of Care. Promoting the values of Person-Centred, Self-Directed and Strength Based approaches.  Individuals presenting needs will be responded to with respect and compassion, their support will be co-ordinated with appropriate agencies, and the clients’, families and carers voices will be integral in the decisions around their support. This approach will help develop strong relationships between clients and their support system, leading to more effective long-term outcomes.

Service Aims

  • To provide multi-agency, co-located support for people who are experiencing mental health crisis.
  • Provide five crisis beds for those who are assessed as in need, for a limited time (up to one week).
  • Service delivery 24 hours a day/7 days a week.
  • Using a shared approach combining the strengths of both the medical and social models.
  • In partnership with other agencies, utilising the same building to provide wrap-around support when people present with complex needs.
  • Create a therapeutic space in the community where people can feel secure and supported.  Where people can gain person-centred assistance with their immediate mental health needs.
  • Provide opportunity for service users to de-escalate away from the situation that may be linked to their crisis.
  • Help those who are often denied primary/acute mental health care provision due to being marginalised through the behaviours they present, alcohol or drug use, removing barriers to access crisis support.
  • People in crisis are seen and managed through service by appropriately skilled and trained staff.
  • Peer-led support model as an integral part of service delivery.
  • Managing the crisis based on presentation and enabling people to leave The Neuk with an individualised personal risk plan identifying coping strategies and other community resources.
  • Create planned pathways in partnership with client to address longer-term needs and enable supported self-management.
  • Decrease the need for presentation at A&E, acute mental health services or other emergency services for example, Ambulance and Police.

We made local news…..no wonder what a great thing Gleneagles have done for our small charity.

I cannot express enough thanks to the team at Gleneagles. Not a dry eye to be seen at Anchor.
